How do I transfer a balance to my credit card?

You can transfer a balance from other credit cards and store cards to your credit card using our secured Online Banking service. After you log on simply click on the Transfer Balances tab and submit a secure electronic form to us. You will be charged a handling fee for a balance transfer which will be detailed on the Balance Transfers tab in Online Banking.

You cannot transfer amounts between credit cards issued by MBNA. You must continue to make payments to your other lenders until the transfer has been confirmed. If you settle other cards or loans your monthly payments may be lower. Charges may be incurred for early settlement of other loans.

Your available credit amount may not include recent purchases, cash transactions or transfers. When deciding on your transfer amount be sure to keep your balance within your available credit limit by taking into account such transactions, as well as any applicable fees and interest that may be added before your next payment due date.

How much can I transfer?

You can transfer a balance for any amount, as long as you stay within your credit limit. Please remember to include handling fees, interest and payment protection cover premiums (if applicable) when working out how much you have available to spend. As a guide, you may be able to take advantage of up to 95% of the credit available on your account.

How long does it take for a balance transfer to reach my account?

A balance transfer will take up to seven working days to reach your account.

How do I get cash with my credit card?

You can access cash by using your credit card and PIN at ATMs in most countries. You can also get cash with your credit card and photo ID from most banks displaying the MasterCard® or Visa® logo. Cash service for American Express® cardmembers, however, is only available from cashpoints and not over the counter. Can I use my credit card at an ATM?

Yes. You can obtain cash from ATMs in most countries throughout the world where you see the Mastercard, Visa or American Express logos. There are over 1,000,000 Mastercard ATMs, 1,000,000 Visa ATMs and 600,000 American Express ATMs. To locate an ATM select any of the following logos:

What is the maximum amount I can withdraw from an ATM per day?

You can withdraw up to £250. If you need to withdraw more than £250 you can usually go into the bank with a recognised form of picture ID, such as your passport, and withdraw larger amounts. You will also be charged a cash handling fee as detailed in Online Banking and interest will be charged from the day of withdrawal.

What is a cash handling fee?

A cash handling fee is the charge that is applied to your account when you make a cash transaction. A cash transaction is any transaction through which you receive cash or a cash substitute by using your card or card number. Examples would be when you withdraw cash from an ATM or bank, when you purchase foreign currency or when you make gambling transactions.

Can I still use my Credit Card Cheques?

From 31st March 2010 we will no longer issue Credit Card Cheques, however any you already have will remain valid. The good news is you can still transfer a balance or transfer money into your current account in Online Banking. Log on or enrol.

What is a Money Transfer?

Using the Bank of America Money Transfer service, you can transfer any amount up to 95% of your available credit limit into your current account* giving you access to cash when you need it. The transfer will show as a balance on your regular credit card statement and you simply make payments to it as part of your total balance. If you have a promotional rate on Money Transfers, the cash you move to your current account will be subject to that rate. To check if you have a current promotional rate on Money Transfers, visit the 'Rates of Interest' section in your online statement - log on or enrol in Online Banking to view yours today.

A Money Transfer gives you access to cash to pay for things like:

  • Making home improvements/paying tradesmen
  • Consolidating loans and/or overdrafts
  • Paying a deposit

You will be charged a handling fee for Balance Transfers, Money Transfers and credit card cheque transactions. Please check the My Promotions page or alternatively the Transfer Balances pages in your online banking site for details. You can transfer a balance for any amount, as long as you stay within your credit limit. How do I transfer money to my bank account?

To transfer money into your current account you must be registered for Online Banking. Not registered? Click here to enrol in Online Banking and follow the simple on screen instructions (you will need your credit card to hand). Once logged in simply select the 'Transfer Balances' tab within Online Banking and submit your money transfer request online. You can then withdraw the cash from your bank account. Please note that there may be a handling fee associated with this transaction, as detailed in your account terms and conditions.
